The seller overpaid. How do I refund them?

If a seller pays more than the required negative equity, the excess stays in your Wallet. Refund it from Requires Attention or the deal page.

When you see "There is an outstanding overpayment by the seller", click Refund seller in your Requires Attention tab (or Refund overpayment on the deal page), then choose Return to original payment method. The excess stays in your Wallet until you refund it.

How to refund the overpayment

You can start the refund from two places.

Option 1: From the Requires Attention tab

This is the fastest way to see all pending overpayments in one place.

  1. Go to Requires Attention. Open the Requires Attention tab in your Carwow Wallet.

  2. Find the deal. Look for the alert "There is an outstanding overpayment by the seller."

  3. Start the refund. Click the dropdown menu on the right and select Refund seller.

Option 2: From the deal page

Use this if you're already reviewing the financial breakdown of a vehicle.

  1. Find the section. On the deal page, look for Outstanding seller overpayment.

  2. Check the amount. The page shows the exact amount paid over the required equity.

  3. Start the refund. Click Refund overpayment at the bottom of the financial summary.

Choose the payment method

After you click refund (from either place), a prompt appears. Always select Return to original payment method. The funds then go straight back to the bank account the seller used.

Things to know

  • For security and accounting reasons, Carwow can't automatically reverse these funds. The seller is only refunded once you trigger the refund in your Wallet.
