On collection day, open the deal page, click Review and Pay, choose Carwow Wallet or a stock funding option, check the details and confirm with your one-time security code. Before collection, make sure your Wallet holds the vehicle price plus fees, unless you're using stock funding.
How to pay on collection day
Once documents are approved and collection has been arranged:
Start the payment. On the deal page, click Review and Pay.
Choose a payment method. Select Carwow Wallet (own funds) or one of the available stock funding options.
Review the payment details. Check the amounts and documents. If the price changed at collection, you can amend it here. See How do I reduce the price at collection?
Confirm and authorise. Enter the one-time security code from your authenticator app.
Before collection: add funds to your Wallet
If you're paying with Wallet funds, make sure your Wallet has enough to cover:
The agreed vehicle price
Buyer fees
Transport fees (if applicable)
If you're using a stock funding option, no deposit is needed in advance, because the funder covers the purchase when you pay.
Tip: If you have more than one collection in the same week, you can cover them all in a single deposit to avoid separate transactions and possible delays. |
Where the money goes
Payments are sent via the UK Faster Payments Network. How the payment is split depends on the deal type:
Deal type | Seller | Finance company | Carwow |
No finance | Agreed vehicle price | – | Buyer and transport fees |
Positive equity (finance is less than the price) | Remaining balance | Outstanding finance | Buyer and transport fees |
Negative equity (finance is more than the price) | – | Outstanding finance | Buyer and transport fees |
You can track the payment in your Wallet transaction history. A summary and the automatically generated sales invoice are available on the listing detail page.
Negative equity deals: one extra step
In a negative equity deal, the seller needs to pay the difference before you can complete the payment. Once documents are approved and collection is arranged, go to the deal page, check the payment request and finance settlement details, and click Send Request. The seller receives a secure link with the payment details.
Tip: Send the request the day before collection, or at least 1 hour beforehand. If there's a delay with the seller's bank, this gives the Carwow Wallet team time to help. |
Important: Never give a seller the account details you use to add funds to your Wallet. They should only use the secure link. If they need help, refer them to the Carwow Wallet team. |
You can check the request's status on the vehicle listing page, and see all pending requests under the Pending tab in your Wallet.
You'll get a confirmation email when the seller's funds arrive. They're automatically allocated to the correct deal.
On the Review Payment Details page, the amounts will include the seller's contribution and the amount going to the finance company.
Why does the seller pay into the Wallet and not the finance company?
So the finance can be settled in one payment. The seller then gets an email and SMS confirming the finance agreement is settled.
