How are negative equity payments processed?

Using the Carwow Wallet to pay for vehicles with negative equity is simple.

  1. Review the payment details: Click the request button to view the payment request and finance settlement details.

  2. Request the seller contribution: Once you’re ready, click "Send Request" to view the bank details for the seller's fund transfer and the relevant payment reference. The seller will receive an email and SMS with the bank details. You’ll also get a confirmation email when the funds are received and when the payment is ready to be sent to the finance house.

  3. Monitor the seller contribution request: Check the status of your payment request on the vehicle listing page and view all pending requests in your wallet under the "Pending" tab.

  4. Complete the payment: To make the payment, click "Make Payment" to review the received amount, the amount for the finance house, and your total payment. Click "Authorize Payment," enter the one-time security code from your authenticator app, and review before clicking "Approve."

When to send the request:

Send the seller contribution request the day before collection, or at least 1 hour beforehand. This allows time for any delay between the seller’s bank and the Wallet provider, so our team can step in if needed — rather than resolving it on collection day.

Why doesn’t the seller pay to the wallet and not to the Finance company directly?
The seller’s contribution (outstanding negative equity) is sent to the dealer's wallet so that the final Wallet payment is sent straight to the Finance Company (plus any buyer and transport fees to Carwow). This way, the Finance is cleared in one payment, and seller gets an email and SMS confirming the finance agreement is settled.

If there’s a reduction to the price agreed at collection, you can amend the purchase price on the Review Payment Details page before completing the payment — see How to Amend a Price During Payment.

Your payment will appear in your wallet's transaction history, along with transaction details and a summary on the listing detail page, including the automatically generated sales invoice.
